Hi, I'm Sara Brugioli!

I'm a Narrative and Game Designer!

Basilisk’s Isles

A mystery game with a twist.

Basilisk’s Isles is a mystery game, with elements of point & click games, set on a mysterious island. It was my end of studies project, on which I worked alongside a team of seven people.

In Basilisk’s Isles, you play as a small, anonymous character, that awakens on a eerie island. Not knowing who you are, or even where you are, you’re invited to explore your surroundings, until you come across a curious man: the Shepherd. He gives you access to your most important tool: the admin windows, before getting kidnapped by a mysterious entity. It’s now your responsibility to investigate, and try to rescue the Shepherd

I worked as Narrative Designer and Producer on Basilisk’s Isles. I was responsible for the narrative cohesion of the project, the narrative systems we would use to get our story across, as well as all the writing of the game.

As a Producer, I took care of organizing our team’s work. We worked with an Agile sprint system, and I closely collaborated with my team Leads to track all aspects of production.

MY WORK

For Basilisk’s Isles, we wanted the narrative to be a key part of the experience: players have to solve the mistery to finish the game. To this end, we felt a standard dialogue system would not fit with our game concept.

We decided we would implement a very specific dialogue system. In Basilisk’s Isles, when speaking to a character, you can “interrogate” them about any subject: a text box will appear, and players can type into it any word that they want answers about.

We wanted players to truly feel as if they had to investigate and find clues, even inside the character’s dialogues.
